What is Peer Pressure?


What is peer pressure?
Teenagers, drugs, alcohol, depression,and stress. All of these are similar one way or another, they also can be caused by on factor: peer pressure. One problem that the youth faces these days is peer pressure. Are you wearing the latest trends, do you smoke, only cool people go to parties and drink. These are just some of the few questions we hear and have to face. From the moment you enter
high school, life definitely is going to change. New school, new grade, and new friends can be one of the influences of peer pressure. Because of peer pressure, teenagers can fall into stress, start doing drugs/smoke, and become alcoholics at an early age.

There are Two Types Of Peer Pressure


1). Negative Peer Pressure
2). Positive Peer Pressure


How do I Resists Peer Pressure?


1).Understanding your own values and beliefs
2).Have Self-confidence
3).Choose your friends wisely
4).Talk to a trusted adult
5).Don’t make excuses – say exactly how you feel.

Negative Peer Pressure


Underage Drinking – The consequences to underage drinking is getting arrested, Having social problems, Long Term Effects on your brain, And Physical problems because drinking alcohol can cause you to get sick such as Alcohol Poisoning and potentially dying from that.

Pressure to Fight– The consequences to Fighting or Physically harming someone is this could lead to going to jail for assault, for Killing someone Which could mean going to jail for a very long time. And if you are pressured to fight someone at school that could lead to getting suspended.

Pressure to have Sex – Having sex before You are ready to can lead to pregnancy And S.T.D’s especially if you wasn’t prepared.

Underage Smoking – The consequences to underage Smoking is developing Heart Disease, leukemia, and the important one is The development of Lung Cancer




Examples of Positive Peer Pressure:
1). Pressure to not drink/smoke/do drugs
2). Pressure to be nice and help others
3). Pressure to exercise

Here are some good things friends can pressure each other to do:
•Be honest
•Avoid Alcohol
•Avoid drugs
•Not smoke
•Be nice
•Respect others
•Work hard
•Exercise (together!)

You and your friends can also use good peer pressure to help each other resist bad peer pressure.
