what is a personal article policy?

This can either be a separate policy or an endorsement to your homeowners' policy. The floater covers high value items which are most likely to be lost or stolen. Each listed item requires an appraisal. If a loss occurs the insurance company pays out the lower amount of either the actual cash value or the cost to repair or replace the item.

What does it cover?

JEWELRY
This include jewelry, silverware, plateware, pewterware, and trophies.

FURS
Any type of fur, items trimmed with fur, or one where the fur is the principal value.

STAMP AND COIN COLLECTIONS
Any valuable stamp or coin collection on either an item-by-item basis, or the entire collection.

CAMERAS
This includes your camera and associated equipment.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
This includes musical instruments, their cases, and sound equipment.

FINE ART
Art includes paintings, antique furniture, manuscripts, and rare books.

How is this different from my Home Insurance Policy?

This type of insurance provides broader coverage, including if you accidentally break an item, or if something is damaged in a flood or other natural disaster.

Personal article policies cover losses to items that occur anywhere in the world, not just in the United States, which is the extent of coverage provided by a standard policy. This is important for those who travel and take their laptops, jewelry, and other valuable items.
