NEW ENGLISH ART CLUB EXHIBITION
Founded in 1886 The New English Art Club was formed by a group of artists who were dissatisfied with the entrenched traditional attitudes of the Royal Academy. Their first show included paintings by George Clausen, Walter Richard Sickert, John Singer Sargent, Wilson Steer and Stanhope Forbes. The work by N.E.A.C. artists was based principally upon direct observation of nature and the human figure. This approach continues to the present day where the N.E.A.C. strives to be a bastion for figurative painting. This is exemplified by the N.E.A.C. having as their Patron H.R.H. The Prince of Wales.
We have in previous exhibitions shown the work of some N.E.A.C. members, including three solo exhibitions by the former President, Richard Pikesley. Inviting fifteen N.E.A.C. members to exhibit as a group in the West Country provides an opportunity to view the tangible connection between artists who share similar painting ideals, at the same time as working in a variety of styles and subject matter. We are delighted that the current N.E.A.C. President, Peter Brown, will also be exhibiting with us in this exhibition.
Exhibition runs from 14th March to 1st April, 2020
