Spencer Simmons is a young, highly skilled artist. Adept in both oil and watercolor, Spencer captures the world around him, both things mundane and uncommon, and gives them a beautiful significance through his handling of form, color and light.
In 2017 Spencer was the recipient of the DonaldJurney Traveling Fellowship, which paved the way for him to travel in Italy studying art and painting. Some of these works are in this collection. Spencer lives and works in Arizona, but paints in other parts of the country as well. There are several pieces in this collection from his travels in Northern New England in the summer of 2019. With confident strokes and a great sensitivity for the way light defines a form and a space, Spencer's works are at once quiet and arresting.
