Sarah Wiseman Gallery is thrilled to bring you the catalogue for the new solo exhibition by Sarah Spackman, 'Drawing in Colour'.
With this new collection of paintings Sarah continues to look at the chosen object from a single view point. Sarah says: With each painting I am exploring the form and the space the object sits in. Using paint, I am aiming to recreate the essence of the subject without simply imitating its appearance.’
These new paintings show an increased clarity in the colour used, an intensity in the development of the coloured forms in the light and space. Some of these works explore a more vibrant palette, but as always, Sarah’s main focus is on concentrated looking at and engagement with her subjects. Each one develops over time in the studio, and the colour whether quiet or bright, informs the structure of the paintings.
The catalogue is illustrated with recent images taken at Sarah Spackman's studio, drawing studies and quotes chosen by her from artist peers.
We would be delighted if you joined us at the gallery for the exhibition opening event.
Sarah Spackman will be with us 12-5pm to greet you and talk about her work in the exhibition.
Weather permitting we will have gazebos and chairs outside of the gallery for socialising after viewing the exhibition.
Drinks will be served.
Listen in as the two Sarahs discuss their lengthy working relationship, Sarah Spackman’s early career and art school experience, her daily routine as a professional artist and the meditative power of still-life painting.
Sarah Spackman's strength of drawing and the delicate and subtle use of colour are two of the main qualities recognised in her work. She applies the guiding principle that good drawing is the basis of good painting and that colour should be used to enhance the organisation and definition of observed space and form. Best known for her still life, Sarah works in a quiet, considered way, inspired by small, cleanly shaped objects, such as eggs, jugs or simple gatherings of flowers.
We hope you have enjoyed the exhibition preview.
On receipt of the catalogue you can reserve and purchase paintings from the exhibition by contacting Sarah Wiseman Gallery.
