PETER KUHFELD, R.P., N.E.A.C.

Peter Kuhfeld will paint the Coronation State Portrait of His Majesty King Charles lll.

Peter's previous work with the Royal Household includes ‘The Last of the Tide: Portraits of D-Day Veterans’ (2015) and ‘Seven Portraits: Surviving the Holocaust’ (2022).
Peter said: “I first met HRH The Prince of Wales, as he was then over 40 years ago through a mutual friend Sir Brinsley Ford. Since that time His Majesty has given me unwavering support in my work; taking me on five of his overseas trips, opening doors and giving me opportunities that I would not have had. Through his great love of painting and drawing he has commissioned me to paint so many outstanding celebrations, including Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee on the Thames.”
Now, as he becomes our King and takes over from the late Queen, his beloved mother, it is my honour that he has asked me to paint his Coronation Portrait.”

In 1985 the New Grafton Gallery gave Peter his first major exhibition, with the painter Christa Ga, which helped establish him as one of the up-and-coming members of the New English Art movement. In 1986 Peter was elected to membership of the New English Art Club. In 1992 he became an elected member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. In 2009, he unveiled a portrait of Harry Patch, the oldest man in Europe and last surviving World War I soldier, which Peter called a “privilege” and "was struck by this extraordinary man".

In 2012 Peter was commissioned by the then Prince of Wales to paint the wedding of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. HM King Charles has been a patron of Peter Kuhfeld and painted portraits for him in 1986 of Princes William and Harry. In 2020 The Prince of Wales commissioned seven artists to each paint a portrait of a survivor of the Holocaust. Peter was commissioned to paint the portrait of Anita Lasker-Wallfisch. These seven portraits were unveiled in 2022 and have now entered the Royal Collection.
