Local Government


In Australia we have three types of governments, we've got Local, State and Federal.
Local Governments are all around Australia. Their are about 560 local governments, 539 are regional/rural, there are 6,600 elected councillors with 10 or under councillors per council.
You might not realise we have a Local Government, but they are in charge of many important jobs that need to be done.

In every State and Territory their is a Government, this Government in called the State Government. The State Government is established under the Australian constitution. The State Government is in charge of all the areas that the Federal Government is not responsible for.
Their are 6 state parliaments in Australia, the head of each State Government is called a Premier.

Australia is a part of a system called a Democracy, a Democracy means that the citizens of the country votes for a leader. Our Prime Minister is Malcolm Turnbull, Their is one prime minister who works at the Parliament house in Canberra. The Prime minister is head of the Federal Government. The Federal Government is in charge of the main problems in Australia. The Federal Government is also know has the Commonwealth Government. The Australian Constitution lists the matters that the Federal Parliament can make laws about.

-Edward Barton was Australia's first Prime Minister.
-On the 1st of January Australia became a part of the Federation.
-The Federal Government of Australia has three names-the Federal Government, the Commonwealth Government and the Government of Australia.
- The Labour Party has been in the Federal Government 16 times.
-The Liberal Party has been in the Federal Government 23 times including the recent vote.
- Their has been 45 elections.
