Efficient Tunnel Lighting

Strand Røyrtunnelen Tunnel
(Norway)
Product Installed: Galileo

AEC Illuminazione has been chosen for the new tunnel LED lighting of Strand Røyrtunnelen, Norway. The tunnel features 440m and its building represented an important part of an avalanche protection project on several exposed roads in western and northern Norway.
AEC has provided Norwegian Authorities with Galileo LED tunnel lighting system, assuring drivers safety and visual comfort. Drivers arriving inside the tunnel are used to natural light and sometimes this can cause troubles for the difference among inside and outside lighting flux. For this reason it’s really important to assure safer and high quality tunnel lights, guaranteeing excellent visibility in order to recognize any obstacles.

Galileo fixture has confirmed its efficiency and modularity, demonstrating to be a perfect solution for tunnel LED lighting. Galileo 3 assures the right flux for entrance zone and Galileo 1 (more little and compact) is suitable for the interior zone. AEC has provided Norwegian authorities with a safer and functional solution that it’s helping the client to reach high energy savings and more sustainability.

Køge Tunnel (Danimarca)

Bologna (Italy)
Product installed: TLED

Thousands of TLEDs have been installed since AEC launched this product in order to meet the local Italian motorway authority’s needs for renewal of the entire tunnel lighting system. Italy is the EU country with the highest number of tunnels and the company has developed a product to guarantee safety, efficiency and costs reduction. This particular tunnel at the entrance of Bologna is placed in one of the most important Italian motorways (the A1). This is considered a fundamental junction for the northbound and southbound traffic. This traffic-congested tunnel was lighted with some 180 TLEDs in both directions. AEC chose TLED, guaranteeing safety and performance in the tunnel. TLED is available with different kinds of optics meeting the most different needs of installation.

Merano (Italy)
Products installed:
TLED TA and AS

The city bypass mostly runs underground, the only access to the surface road network is located under the city’s railway station. Once completed, the project will be organized in three levels:
- On the surface (Via IV Novembre);
- 7 meters deep (with a roundabout leading to the train station or to Lagundo);
- 17 meters deep (with the continuation of the tunnel towards Passiria valley).
The investment has contributed to improve the traffic flow in Burgraviato and has also been done to safeguard the green wedge between Merano and Lagundo, an example of good sense allowing to solve technical problems by giving priority to the protection of the environment. From the technical point of view the tunnel includes several changes, 3 entrances, 2 junctions and a roundabout located underground.

The complexity of the conditions (the reduced height of the tunnel and the almost obligatory positioning of the devices) required a careful lighting calculation. AEC proposed the series of TLED projectors (featured by a wide range of optics and different sizes) and the TABLED module. Installed luminaires:
- 108 TABLED modules (on the roundabout);
- 96 TLED TA 4.5-36 (permanent lighting and ramps);
- 40 TLED TA 4.5-54 (ramps);
- 32 TLED 6M 1F AS 4.7-54 (entrance/exit zone lighting);
- 2 TLED 6M 1F AS 4.7-36 (entrance/exit zone lighting);
- 4 TLED 1F AS 6M 4.7-18 (entrance/exit zone lighting);
- 3 TLED 1F AS 6M 4.7-9 (entrance/exit zone lighting).
