Chrome Shelled Regios
Watching the first episode I was immediately impressed. There aren't many anime out there that start right off with a fight and are successful. Just from the first five minutes you get a glimpse of the setting where the whole anime takes place. Enormous dome-like cities walking on mechanical spider-like legs in a desolate desert wasteland which is populated by some alien creatures that lurk around and threaten the very existence of human kind. It is evident that average humans are no match for these creatures, as some of them are half the size of the domes. On top of that, three heroes called Heavens-Blades show up and start ravaging the beast to shreds.
The plot continues a few years later focusing on a mysterious skilled fighter called Layfon Alseif who just arrived at one of the dome-like cities. In the first three minutes when this guy makes an appearance it is evident that he's one of those Awesome-Main-Characters. Showing incredible strength backfires and he is pulled into the military- the one place where he didn't want to return to.
Art & Animation:
The animation is just awesome. Beautiful scenery, a lot of movement with flashy action scenes creates a very high overall impression.
Sound:
The music in suspense and fight scenes fits perfectly. The opening is one of the best anime openings I've heard. Other sounds such as explosions, cutting, sword clashing etc., are quite decent and it didn't feel like something was missing.
Story: Although incomplete with a lot of plot holes, the idea itself, from my perspective, is very unique and every episode was a real treat to watch, always wanting to know more, but never quite getting your curiosity satisfied.Characters: Although all characters are fairly unique and interesting, the focus is on the main character. There is a huge contrast between the main character and other side characters in terms of their development. That said, character development is average at best. The characters that the viewer is most interested in are the ones left in the dark. Without a second season it seems like a lot of wasted potential. Value: This is one of those anime where everyone depends on the main character and everything depends on his actions. Everyone likes heroes. Especially if they are as successful and badass as Layfon Alseif.
Enjoyment:
From my part the overall enjoyment overshadows any discrepancies that the story or characters may have posed, leaving me crave for more. I would definitely recommend this as a must-see anime to anyone who enjoys overpowered main characters and action, without being irritated at the lack of explanation for the plot.
